I let myself become distressed over the nonsense of the so-called tea parties, protests orchestrated by the likes of Sean Hannity and Bobby Jindal. I was driven to despair by the violence of their words.
But this is Easter, and I refuse to give in. Violence may come. So be it. But, let's see what tomorrow holds.
They talk of a society built on Biblical principals. Perhaps, we'll get one that is.
ACTS 2:42-47
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
EZEKIEL 18:16-17
He does not oppress anyone
or require a pledge for a loan.
He does not commit robbery
but gives his food to the hungry
and provides clothing for the naked.
He withholds his hand from sin
and takes no usury or excessive interest.
He keeps my laws and follows my decrees.
MATTHEW 5:38-40
"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
LUKE 12:33-34
Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
MATTHEW 22:21
Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
HEBREWS 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
ISAIAH 11:6
The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
MATTHEW 7:1-3
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
ROMANS 2:1-3
You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?
Somehow, I don't think the neo-cons would be very pleased with a society built on Bible principals.
The same people who told the rest of the USA to shut up, that the electorate had spoken, now lead an open, albeit non-violent (at present) rebellion against a lawfully-elected government. You think I'd be used to it by now, but I do think that if they can't be trusted to behave like honest, sensible adults - like those of us who suffered, obeying the rule of law, under George W. Bush and the neo-con regime - then they should have all freedom stripped from them until they learn how to be part of a society.
In the meantime, it's Easter, or Pascha, or Pesach. For me, for Elizabeth Kaeton, for those who love beautiful liturgy (though these are Ukrainian Catholic - Eastern rite Catholics - so their theological relationship to God through humanity is profoundly impaired), there is this:

Please stay safe.
And remember that these "people" are still humans, still people. I don't know how to deal with the violence of their rhetoric. I don't know an appropriate response to the violent actions you fear. But I don't think implying they are anything less than human is helpful.
As long as they respect my humanity, I'll respect theirs.
In the end, Song, if I'm honest, I don't believe a mob is ever truly human.
Well, that's just it, is a group of people human? The psychology of crowds is far different than the psychology of individuals. For one thing, groups of people are fairly predictable, even as far as their movement (as a wonderful program called Crowdflow illustrates). Groups of people are dependent upon group cohesion, and that is dependent upon commonality. Unfortunately, the easiest commonality is also considered to be the lowest, as it is often the emotional, the vengeful, the violent, the irrational.
